For millions of children across the world, school lunches are part of their everyday lives. However, research by the European Commission has found that, in The Gambia, around 52% of the population live under the poverty line and an estimated 25% of children below the age of five suffer from chronic malnutrition. For many school-goers, a school lunch is the only substantial meal they’ll receive, and, for most Gambians, they are a big help towards cutting the costs of feeding the family.
In 2020, The Gambia endured a heavy rainy season, causing extensive damage across the country. In remote areas, this is very difficult to rectify.
